REPORT: Former College Football Player Accused Of Betting On His Team to Lose Games

An Iowa State football player is under fire for betting against his own team in 2021.

Seven more college football players were charged with tampering with records in the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s probe into sports wagering at in-state universities.

Iowa State defensive lineman Isaiah Lee, tight end DeShawn Hanika and offensive lineman Jacob Remsburg — all starters last season — have been charged along with Iowa State starting running back Jirehl Brock.

Brock allegedly bet on two Cyclones football games during the 2022 season; Lee allegedly bet on one Iowa State football game in 2021. His bet is notable since he bet on his team to lose to Texas even though they were 6.5-point favorites in that game.

Iowa State would win that game. Lee had one tackle in the 30-7 tackle. It appears he did his part to try and win that bet but it did not work.

Lee is accused of placing 26 wagers on 12 Iowa State games.

Hanika is accused of placing 70 wagers on Iowa State basketball.

Remsburg is alleged to have placed 273 wagers, including six college football and basketball games, but none of his wagers were placed on games involving Iowa State.

Brock allegedly placed wagers on four Iowa State football games using an online wagering account under a different name. He reportedly appeared in two of the football games he allegedly wagered on. The criminal complaint also included wagers on 13 Iowa State basketball games.

This is just the tip of the iceberg as more are sure to be found.
