Why is there a nuclear reactor on a college campus? Are we in an episode of The Simpsons?

A female Utah student has been arrested because of a threat she made over the weekend. According to KSL.com, she threatened to detonate a nuclear reactor located on campus if Utah lost to San Diego State this past Saturday.

The Utah Utes made sure that never happened as they won, 35-7.

The 21-year-old woman allegedly posted “threats of violence” on an app called Yik Yak before the game, according to KSL.com. Police said the student had knowledge of a nuclear reactor on campus and took classes in the same building where the reactor is located.

She stated “if the football team did not win the game, (she) was going to detonate the nuclear reactor that is located in the University of Utah causing a mass destruction.”

The reactor has been housed in the university’s engineering building since 1972.

Ruining your life over a football game is not the best decision, but hopefully it will deter others from doing the same in the future.
