Charles Trammell was hit by a car and killed Saturday after he tried to help a stranded driver.

Trammell, a defensive lineman for Texas Wesleyan, was helping stranded students change a tire, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Police said Trammell was struck by another vehicle and the impact caused him to fall off the bridge, which is 60 feet high.

Online records list his age as 20.

Police suspect the driver was intoxicated.

According to the report, 28 year old Miguel Lopez from Fort Worth, Texas has been charged with intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Charles Trammell,” the team tweeted Monday. “Our hearts go out to his family, teammates, and friends at such a difficult time. We will miss Charles greatly.”

The driver is being held on $80,000 bond, $40,000 for each charge.
