Bennedict Mathurin should be enjoying his team’s success in the NCAA Tournament after they advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. Instead, he is having to speak out after a video showed him possibly making contact with a TCU cheerleader after the Wildcats’ second-round victory.
Mathurin said Wednesday that he has attempted to apologize to a TCU dance team member.

Arizona athletic director Dave Heeke issued a statement Wednesday:
“Shortly after returning to Tucson, I was notified that people on social media were claiming a video clip showed Bennedict Mathurin may have made physical contact with a TCU student while walking off the court,” Heeke said in a statement. “I have reached out to TCU’s Athletics Department and I spoke with Bennedict. While he does not recall any contact, he has attempted to reach out to the TCU student through their Athletic Department to apologize.”
Mathurin didn’t say what response, if any, he got from an email he sent through the TCU athletic department when trying to relay his apology to the TCU cheerleader in question, according to ESPN.
TCU has made no public comments about the incident since returning home from the game, and the school has not identified the dancer.
Arizona will face 5-seed Houston on Thursday night in San Antonio.
