Arik Gilbert, Nebraska TE, Arrested For Breaking Into Liquor & Vape Shop

Former five-star recruit and Nebraska tight end, Arik Gilbert, has been arrested on a burglary charge. The incident occurred at SJ’s Liquor and Vape Shop in Lincoln, where the police responded to a burglary call. The surveillance video obtained shows Gilbert breaking into the shop and later being placed in handcuffs by the Lincoln Police.

The police discovered Gilbert walking towards the exit with a bag containing stolen items such as vape products, Delta 8, cigars, and lighters. The total value of the stolen items was $1,672.07, and the estimated damage to the store was $650.

Head coach Matt Rhule expressed his disappointment and sadness for Gilbert during a press conference. Gilbert has been booked in the Lancaster County jail on a felony charge of burglary. It remains unclear what this means for Gilbert’s status with the team, as Rhule declined to comment on the matter.

Gilbert, who was a highly sought-after recruit, started his college career at LSU, where he had a successful freshman season. He then transferred to Georgia but sat out the 2021 season. Gilbert played in three games for the Bulldogs, recording two catches for 16 yards and a touchdown. In January, he transferred to Nebraska but requires a waiver from the NCAA to be eligible this season.

The Cornhuskers are scheduled to begin their 2023 season against Minnesota on Thursday evening.
